The fast pace of day-to-day modern life can leave many of us feeling overwhelmed – and stress isn’t very kind to our skin either. There are plenty of natural ways relieve stress and its harsh impact on the skin.
Here are our favourite three.
MANAGE YOUR BREATHING
We tend to breathe in short, shallow breaths when we are stressed, which can make our skin flushed, red and strained. That’s why mastering the art of deep, full breathing through mindful meditation is integral to keep the body functioning at its peak.
Practising meditation, mindfulness and yoga can help us to become more aware of our body and our breathing, while reducing anxiety and improving the look and feel of the skin.
Meditation is a good remedy for long-term stress and for those who have a tendency towards rumination. It can also help reduce rashes, eczema and other skin conditions by supporting the part of our nervous system that relates to relaxation.
Exercise is important in helping to relieve stress and yoga is a great option, as it releases toxins and promotes the release of endorphins.
Take 10 minutes every day to focus on your breathing and the results will astound you.
SLEEP WELL
Stress can disrupt our regular sleep patterns and play havoc with our skin, so a good night’s sleep will work wonders.
Lavender-based products are wonderful for soothing and relaxing the body and mind into a peaceful slumber. Make a lavender sleep sachet and pop it under your pillow or wear a lavender-scented eye mask. Our Oilixia Brilliance Facial Oil contains lavender essential oil, which makes it the prefect pre-bedtime skin treat.
Drinking a warm mug of chamomile tea, or a bedtime blend (Pukka do a great night time one!) before turning in is another age-old habit that will lull the body into a comfortable sleep.
A warm bath before bed is another powerful way to reduce the impact of stress, by soothing the body and relaxing muscles.
BE KIND TO YOUR SKIN
In times of stress, it can be difficult to maintain our regular skincare routine. Stress is disruptive enough to our body and mind, so mustering that little bit of extra energy to cleanse and moisturise before bed is really worthwhile.
Stress can also cause our skin to dry out. Our Oilixia Brilliance Facial Oil contains a good dose of omegas 3, 6 and 9, along with antioxidants that help to replenish moisture and protect the skin. It also encourages a feeling of uplift and calm thanks to its delicate, essential oil mix of neroli, lavender, bergamot and patchouli.
